For several months, the Monaco Red Cross has been carrying out an operation aimed at capitalising on its experience in the field of international solidarity. Improving practices, sharing experiences and developing expertise are the desired objectives.
Monaco, 11/09/17
For almost 70 years, the Monaco Red Cross has been working for the well-being of all citizens, and it is recognised both in Monaco and across the globe for the actions it undertakes to help the most vulnerable individuals in society. Today, it covers 5 areas of activity: first aid, public health, mobilising young people, social activities, and a very active international branch.
For decades, the Monaco Red Cross has participated systematically in the emergency response to humanitarian disasters, mainly by providing financial support for field operations thanks to the wonderful network created by the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which is present in 190 countries.
In 2007, spearheaded by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, President of the Monaco Red Cross, the international humanitarian section was created. For 10 years, this section has been trying to develop international solidarity projects aimed at supporting national societies in countries where there are many vulnerable people, whilst helping build the capacities of their partners in the field.
Thus, by continuing to participate financially in emergency operations throughout the world, the Monaco Red Cross has developed expertise in projects involving particularly vulnerable populations in areas such as social issues, child protection, food security, water, hygiene and sanitation.
An initial capitalisation workshop was held in Monaco with the project leaders from Burkina Faso and Côte d’Ivoire. The aim was to share experiences on the design and implementation of a water, hygiene and sanitation project in these two countries. A second workshop will be held at the end of November in Burkina Faso to address the problem of young girls working as home helps.
Shared experiences, tool kit, testimonies, success factors, obstacles overcome, areas requiring careful attention and lessons learned, information that can be used in the implementation of new projects.
