Published on 20.12.2019

This year as is the case every 4 years, the statutory meetings of the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Movement took place in Geneva. H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince travelled there on 9th December. An overview of the key points of this high-level meeting in the humanitarian sector.

Monaco, 11/12/2019 – From 3rd to 14th December, a delegation from the Monaco Red Cross including a “youth” delegate, took part in the statutory meetings of the Red Cross and Red Crescent International Movement, with a view to discussing and making decisions in regard to key humanitarian issues.

Within this context, on 9th December, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince, President of the Monaco Red Cross, accompanied by representatives of the Government of Monaco, attended the opening ceremony of the 33rd International Conference of the Red Cross and Red Crescent.

On this occasion, H.S.H. the Sovereign Prince took part in an event focused on the Loumbila multipurpose training centre project, in the presence of Mr Frédéric Platini, Secretary General of the Monaco Red Cross. He later visited a stand jointly run by the Monaco Red Cross and Burkina Faso Red Cross on this project.

Several commitments were made by the Monaco Red Cross, including on gender equality, international humanitarian law, links between research and the humanitarian sector, and the consequences of climate change on health.

Finally, alongside this event, H.S.H. Prince Albert II visited the new premises of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, which is celebrating its centenary, and held discussions with its President, Mr Francesco Rocca, together with its Secretary General, Mr Elhadj As Sy.

A series of contemporary works of art, created for the Monaco Red Cross on the occasion of its traditional Gala event, will shortly be made available to them for several years.
