News about our flagship project

The hotel complex in Loumbila is spectacular, the vegetation has grown, animals have colonised the trees and green areas but like all other hotel facilities across the globe, the Dunia Hotel in Loumbila is woefully lacking customers. It opened its doors in May 2019 and since then the security situation has deteriorated dramatically and the COVID-19 pandemic has put a stop to international travel and group gatherings. The annual occupancy rate is only 15%. We are endeavouring to support this hotel and the hotel group that manages it as best as we can by developing the Burkina Faso Red Cross (CRBF) Training Centre which can use the hotel complex for seminars and by developing projects for the communities living close to the complex.

The training centre, in partnership with the Luxembourg Red Cross. Activities have taken place despite the pandemic situation. Currently focused primarily on first aid, the project should enable us to diversify the training courses offered by the CRBF in order to extend its reach across several areas of expertise recognised within our Movement:  Climate Change, First Aid, Disaster Preparedness & Response, Food Security, Emergency Shelter, Psychological Support…

Workshops have been organised in the centre by the ICRC and CRBF in Loumbila by observing social distancing rules.

Community projects to help the people of Loumbila

The project “For a positive community impact around the Loumbila Multidisciplinary Training Centre (CFPL)” was launched in July 2020 for a 3-year period. The project began with the launch of poultry farming and vegetable production activities at the Na Tilge Training Centre. In order to increase the revenue generated from these activities, the NGO Tamat arranged for local monitoring and technical support to be set up.

A second component of the project involves reducing the risk of drowning in the commune. Swimming lessons, which have been organised for Years 7 and 11 students attending the Lycée Départemental de Loumbila, are conducted in partnership with the Princess Charlene Foundation.

Fishermen and residents of Loumbila have had water rescue training. Several rescuers will now be able to intervene in the main high-risk areas of the commune (water retention areas).
