Transparency and Responsibility
The Monaco Red Cross is an integral part of the Monegasque voluntary sector through its local and international activities. You can support the efforts of the Monaco Red Cross by making a donation (one-off or regular), purchasing solidarity products and volunteering.
1 – History of the Monaco Red Cross
The Monegasque Red Cross Association was created on March 3rd 1948 by Prince Louis II. The same year, it was recognised by the International Committee of the Red Cross and admitted to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. The Monaco Red Cross is presided by His Serene Highness Prince Albert II since 1982. He is assisted by a Board of Directors of 17 members appointed for 3 years by Sovereign Order.

The Red Cross Gala
The first Monegasque Red Cross Gala was presided over by Prince Rainier III in 1948. The donors and public eagerly await this charity gala every year. For many years it was held in the summer in the Salle des Etoiles of the Monte-Carlo Sporting Club. Today it is hosted in the Place du Casino and continues to feature one or more internationally renowned artists. The Red Cross Gala gives the Monaco Red Cross the opportunity to express its gratitude to its generous donors and to pay tribute to the work accomplished, notably by the Société des Bains de Mer (SBM), both locally and internationally.
3. Transparency and financial accountability
The annual financial statements of the Monegasque Red Cross, including Monaco Red Cross donations, the balance sheet and the provisional budgets, are approved by the members of the Board of Directors at the annual General Assembly.
They are submitted to the control of an auditor, registered with the Order of Registered Accountants of the Principality of Monaco, who issues an audit report. The accounts of the Monegasque Red Cross are also audited annually within the scope of the government subvention by the auditor of the Government of Monaco.
4 . How Monaco Red Cross donations are used
Our resources are allocated annually on the basis of budgets approved by the Board of Directors.
Please see our annual activity report which provides more details on Monaco Red Cross donations and the use of funds according to missions and activities.
2021 Additional Donations
During 2021, the Monaco Red Cross received many additional donations, in particular due to the COVID-19 health crisis and the aftermath of Storm Alex, which brought record-breaking floods and landslides, and caused much devastation in the south of France. Donations were also received in support of the various associations working for youth in the principality. Records of these activities are included in the annual activity report.
Finally, many Monaco Red Cross donations were received to support the Ukranian relief movement for people affected by the armed conflict. At the beginning of 2022, the MonacoRed Cross placed particular focus on supporting this cause.
5. Monaco Red Cross Staffing and Volunteers
The Monaco Red Cross has more than 680 active volunteers without whose dedication and commitment our work could not continue.
In 2022 alone, our volunteers carried out some 38,000 hours of voluntary work of action to bring support closer to the people. These volunteer hours correspond mainly to supporting social assistance activities, including projects in hospitals and retirement homes, the running of first aid stations, health prevention actions, mobilizing young people, and various international missions.
