Training in life-saving techniques

First aid training is a vital tool for saving lives, reducing the severity of injuries and strengthening community resilience — particularly in parts of Africa where access to medical care can be limited. First aid education lies at the heart of the Red Cross’s mission, ensuring that individuals are better prepared to respond effectively in the event of a medical emergency or disaster.

Two key projects are currently underway:

  • Support for the Red Cross Training Centre — aimed at strengthening the local capacity of humanitarian actors in Burkina Faso in first aid and other humanitarian professions.
  • Workplace First Aid Development in West Africa — carried out in partnership with the French Red Cross, this project aims to improve training across four countries: Burkina Faso, Mauritania, Niger and Senegal. In this region, the rate of work-related accidents is among the highest in the world.
