The Red Cross Multipurpose Training Centre in Loumbila (Burkina Faso) is, without a doubt, the most ambitious international solidarity project ever undertaken by the Principality of Monaco. Inaugurated in 2019, it was born from the desire of the Burkina Faso Red Cross to develop its 6.5-hectare site in Loumbila, combined with the Principality’s decision to repurpose its pavilion from the 2015 Milan Expo.
What sets this global sustainable development project apart is its integration of three complementary components: economic, social (community-based), and ecological.
Located on the grounds of the Centre, the Dunia Hotel Loumbila has 64 rooms and is managed by the West African hotel group Azalaï Hotels. Thanks to the income it generates, the facility enables the Burkina Faso Red Cross to strengthen its emergency response and solidarity-based initiatives. The hotel employs 54 people full-time and creates many additional jobs for subcontractors and local suppliers throughout the region.
