Supporting women and girls who have experienced sexual violence

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we work alongside the International Aid Division of the Luxembourg Red Cross to support the efforts of the Panzi Foundation, founded by Dr Denis Mukwege, recipient of the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize. Together, we contribute to the socio-economic reintegration of women and girls who have survived wartime rape in the eastern part of the country.

After receiving medical care and psychosocial support, survivors are guided through legal proceedings and accompanied throughout their reintegration journey. We help construct safe, dignified housing and support the creation of solidarity-based savings groups (MUSO).

These mutual aid groups — powerful drivers of social cohesion — strengthen women’s capacity to support one another and to invest in both individual and collective income-generating activities.
