The 24th session of the General Assembly of the IFRC
Published on 25.10.2024The CRM delegation is currently attending the 24th session of the General Assembly of the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and will continue over the following days with the Council of Delegates of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
The leaders of the Movement have addressed urgent global challenges such as disasters, climate change and armed conflict. The role that we play as a source of hope was highlighted during the ceremony, by means of a video illustrating the impact of action carried out by the Red Cross and Red Crescent network worldwide.
Participants were questioned on the priorities and key challenges awaiting the Movement, as well as the messages they feel are important to convey to States at the upcoming International Conference. The importance of continuing to strengthen local capacity and the autonomy of community interventions was brought to the fore, as was the importance of respecting IHL in order to address humanitarian challenges.
“These meetings offer us an opportunity to get together, to learn from each other and to strengthen our common mission” – excerpt from the address given by Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation. Completed by the words of Mirjana Spoljaric, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), “It is you, the National Societies, who play a key role in promoting respect for IHL and who ensure that our interventions are adapted to the needs of the people we serve…”
A call to the power of humanity.
